NYE; Another Airport Slumber Party

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 16, 2015

As soon as I got off the plan in Sydney I started counting the cafés, espresso stands and coffee places.      Five.     There were five different coffee choices just in the international terminal! And not one of them was a Starbucks! If Australia loves it’s coffee this much we are going to get …

An Airport Slumber Party

By Amber Woods on Thursday, January 15, 2015

It’s two a.m. Hawaii time and I would kill for a cup of coffee right now.      Welcome to sleeping in an airport.      My flight from LAX arrived in balmy humid Honolulu about four hours ago and I did manage a few hours sleep on the plane squeezed like a …

Acorns and Ashes

By Amber Woods on Saturday, January 10, 2015

Sometimes people ask me why I run.      Because pounding out miles heals heartbreak.      My feet flying through the hard packed dirt or soft snow releases my stress into pure bliss when I come to the top of a mountain peak and I see this.      I run because …

Small Town Friendships

The last few years have really changed my life and my life style as a person. When I think of some of the terrible people who have infested my life in the last two years I think to myself why did I put up with these retched individuals in my life? Life is …

Walking in a True Winter Wonderland

By Amber Woods on Sunday, January 4, 2015

I guess every one loves their home town for a different reason. When I think of my hone town I think of water. I think if Running Springs and creeks and crystal clear streams     Southern California has been in a drought for ear and as I run the winding mountain trails of my …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
