Christmas card from a hooker

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 21, 2014

Last year my coworker was putting together a Christmas playlist.      When he asked me for my choice I requested Christmas card from a hooker by Tom Waits       He just looked at me in disbelief as tragically in this day and age nobody listens to Tom Waits. Most people …

Traffic Circle Hell; Lost in Tijuana

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, December 17, 2014

If you ask my dad about Mexico he will rant and rave about the traffic circles of Tijuana and you do not ever want to get caught in a traffic circle in Tijuana.      Last week I learned why.      For the second time in my life I got lost in …

You wouldn’t expect to go to the best steakhouse of your life and a fantastic culinary good time while traveling in Baja California. That One Time I Played with a Lion

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 14, 2014

“Ok”.        They are going to throw a lion at me.       I’m going to take a few pictures and we are out of there!”         I probably have that crazy chipmunk look in my eyes again as I shout these words toward my boyfriend, …

Well, That’s Just Mexico

By Amber Woods on Thursday, December 11, 2014

“How was Mexico?” My friends have been asking.       It was like a video game.       If you are not dodging stray dogs and people running stop signs than you are trying to decide if the speed limit is 40 k or 80 k or 60 k, in …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
