A Night in Venezia

By Amber Woods on Saturday, January 16, 2016

It was our fourth night in Venice, at the end of day four of having way to much fun on the city that sits on ancient wooden stilts in the middle of the Adriatic Sea. It was also the first night of Carneval. My head was reeling from the discovery that yes indeed I do like white wine. …

Coffee Rubbed Bacon Wrapped Dates

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, January 12, 2016

I just bought my first pair of padded pants!     No I’m not incontinent, I have decided to be a cyclist!     Well kind of.     I hate riding my bike anywhere near cars.     It’s just not fun to me when cars are roaring by you at fifty …

“So far this morning I have had a man pick his nose while having a conversation with me. I watched some one blow a snot rocket into a trash can after the first race, A man sat down on the bench next to me and belched loudly five times and farted once. ( I was …

We Talk in Fractions

By Amber Woods on Sunday, January 10, 2016

We talk in fractions. “The eight is 9-2” We speak our own language with words like, Saez and Leparoux and Florent Geroux. We throw out terms like tongue ties and lay offs. Any one listening to use chat would think what in the world are these guys in the red suspenders talking about? We get …

Anglo Indian Burgundy Lamb Stew with Garam Marsala

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 8, 2016

A tomato with blue eyes, a kitty cat and an Indian went on a forest walk about on Christmas Eve morning. No this is not a bad joke. The tomato is me (As my face was wind burned) Carly our pup was the kitty cat (As she comes when I say kitty kitty) and my …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
