Vegas!!!

6 pounds of Pot and 7 Ferrets

By Amber Woods on Friday, February 27, 2015

My friends and I were on the last leg of a very long drive back from Las Vegas.        The drive back from Las Vegas is always long but when you are in a hurry to be at home and see your boyfriend after three days out of state the drive takes …

Cheesey Corn Chowder with Poblanos

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, February 25, 2015

I miss snow days. It’s mid February and it feels like a late March spring day in this mountain town. Except for one major difference. There is no snow run off this year. The creeks, lakes and ponds of Running Springs are bone dry and it breaks my heart. Friends in the North West speak …

Caramel Pumpkin Coconut Lattes

By Amber Woods on Monday, February 23, 2015

I may complain a lot about flatlanders and how they are terrified to drive in mountains but today I decided to act like a flat lander.     My friends were visiting from Down the Hill ( it means off the mountain for you un mountain folk) and they wanted to go to …

A Warm Welcome Back to the USA

By Amber Woods on Friday, February 20, 2015

I stumbled off my twelve hour international fight exhausted.  After an easy time going through passport control thanks to new passport kiosks that make your entry into a foreign country much less of a hassle I was headed down the elevator and pass a broad slab of cement with a warm welcome to the United …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
