Dear California

By Amber Wood on Thursday, November 10, 2016

Dear California, From the Pacific Ocean to the snowy slopes of Lake Tahoe you have really done it this time. No I’m not here today to complain about your crowded freeways and how much I hate the 405. I’m here today to bitch and moan and whine about all the idiots who voted yes on …

If You Are Not Outraged Than You Are Not Paying Attention

By Amber Wood on Thursday, November 10, 2016

I’m extremely frustrated in the last week or so with how entitled young Americans are. Instead of attending school they protest on freeways and burn flags. Dear UCLA Students, You are supposed to be the smartest college students in the country. Don’t play on the freeway! And it’s ironic to see them having a temper …

I Voted And I I Feel Like Poo

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, November 8, 2016

In honor of election day 2016 I spent the morning hiking and then acting like a lesbian couple having a fight with a good friend. Tabitha and I parked at the Onyx Summit PCT jump off point in the still chilly early morning hours. It’s always chilly in the fall at almost 8,000 feet. I’m …

“Beer Me Doggy”

By Amber Wood on Sunday, November 6, 2016

I may have been in the forest to long when I find myself saying, “Beer me!” To my dog. Yes, well, eight days of camping and talking to almost no one but my dog can do that to a girl. It’s probably going to be a fantastic sunset tonight because fire, yea. There appears to …

I Heart Thunderstorms

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, November 1, 2016

If there is one thing I love it is thunderstorms. I do not however love them when we are six miles from the car, running down the trail in my Merril hiking boots as the unpredicted thunderstorm is rolling in unbelievably fast. The problem with this particular thunderstorm is our tent set up back at …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
