Mothers Day 2012

By Amber Woods on Monday, May 21, 2012

Well today was one more step down the road to not being able to take me any where. It seems I can’t stop shouting things that are better off left in side my head like “I have to poop!” or “Pull my finger!” Today I became that embarrassing person who we all know (And love?) …

Journey to the Penny Pines Plantation

By Amber Woods on Sunday, May 20, 2012

Four miles from my front door is a grove of bright neon green sequoia trees.  The trees are the most insane neon color set against the army green drab of the Buck’s Brush and the office grey of the boulders that sit in the loose sand. The massive trees stand out in this forest …

Cows pooping, Stinky Spas and Wine Tasting; Epic Trip to the Central Coast

By Amber Woods on Sunday, May 20, 2012

I smell like campfire and rotten eggs.    A little stinkier than usual, maybe even for me.   Ahh camping.    Nothing like sipping a warm Chai tea by the camp fire on a chilly beach morning while reading a good book.    Or nothing like setting up your tent right next to a bee hive, finding ticks …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
