Thankful

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 8, 2012

Today made me so very thankful that I can come home after a long day at work and hug my pets.   As soon as I walked in the door at midnight the first thing I did was hug both my cats, my face snuggled into their warm fur as tears leaked down my cheeks.    …

Distractions

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 7, 2012

I might just be the worst Republican ever.   I took me almost twenty four after last nights election results were official to remember to check and see who our next president might be.   My cell phone was dead and I was distracted by mountain fun times and because of this, I was probably one …

Carrot Cake Waffles

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 7, 2012

I had to run five miles this morning.    Why did I have to run five miles? Because of these Waffles.    I should thank IHOP for inspiring me to make Carrot Cake Waffles, as when I was there the other day their Carrot Cake Pancakes disgusted me.   That was not because they were bad, but …

Apple Pie Moonshine

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I live in a mountain community where they really do have a local homemade moonshine competition every year. Life in the mountains often includes making moonshine, camping in the forest on a cold autumns night and drinking said moonshine around a roaring camp fire with new found friends.    I have never entered the moon …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
