Glory Ridge Run

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 19, 2012

I ran Glory Ridge on a snowy November morning last week.   It was such a gorgeous morning run.    All the pines were still covered in snow on the hilltops up near Butler’s Peak.   We only got a couple of inches of snow, but it was enough to make the mountains so pretty on …

Holy Holcomb

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 18, 2012

It’s a Sunday, I’m not at church today. I’m running the formally dusty, now snow covered dirt roads of Holcomb Valley.     This open land is so peaceful and glorious to me, it doesn’t matter that I didn’t find myself in a church on this Sunday A.M. I can feel god all around me …

My Phone Defecated

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 17, 2012

I’m out for my morning run tearing up the streets of my neighborhood at six a.m. Most of my neighbors are still sleeping off the meth they made/ did the night before. My otherwise rowdy, redneck neighborhood is quite at this hour, just the morning birds chirping away in the yellow oak leaves above my …

Thank God for Super Glue

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 16, 2012

The following is a real conversation RING RING        “Dad?” Do you have any super glue?         “Yeah… How much do you need?”         “Ummm… Enough to glue my thumb back on”         “Maybe you should just go to Urgent Care?”         “Well I hit my head also. Do you …

The Cats, the Bird, the Cats having a Panic Attack

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 15, 2012

We are under attack!   What is that pounding!?    The felines are very upset!   Sierra has already had a rough morning. He knocked over my coffee than pretty much rolled in it.     Now his fur is gross but he does smell like a latte which is much better than stinky kitty smell.    Both cats …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
