Coconut Sweet Potato Fries with Spicy Sugar Dust

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Hiking Mt Baldy is definitely not something I would recommend when suffering through the Budweiser Flu.         I had plans to hike Mt Baldy this morning with six friends; thank god T cancelled last minute and the trip kind of fell apart.        Yesterday when I purchased Vodka of the Gods (You know the …

Please Don’t Fart in the MRI machine

By Amber Woods on Friday, May 22, 2015

This is my third life time MRI. You would think at this point I would Know better than to drink a giant Starbucks iced coffee an hour before my appointment. (Of course, a few hours before my first MRI when I was a little kid, I did not have an iced coffee. I was smarter …

Curried Chicken Salad with Grapes, Almonds and Soba Noodles

By Amber Woods on Thursday, May 21, 2015

I love the rain and snow so much. Unfortunately for my love of winter time here in California we are in a thousand year drought. That means the few and far between times it does sprinkle or barely snow we take full advantage of every little snow flake. Todays forecast called for seventy percent chance …

How to Make Delicious Dosas

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 19, 2015

It was my first time making dosas. My boyfriend made me dosas two weeks ago and he has awakened a monster inside of me! I can not get enough of this Indian food breakfast treat; a pancake made with lentil powder and fenugreek. I know, lentil pancakes? It sounds weird, right? I’ve only had the …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
