Pasta Pasta Pasta

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 13, 2015

I didn’t want to go to Venice. I know, I know, everyone says it’s the most romantic and one of the most beautiful cities on earth. All I could think about was, I do not want to eat Italian food for four days. I grew up eating nothing but pasta. When I was a young …

At the beginning of the summer my dad had rotator cuff surgery. I stayed at my parents house that night to help out and also to save my mom some of her sanity. I thought my dad would come out of the hospital and be sedated and calm and maybe just sit down and relax. …

Turmeric Roasted Beet Caprese Salad

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

I have been cooking with so much turmeric recently for the anti inflammatory agents found in turmeric root. Not surprisingly my finger tips are dyed orange, my dishes are dyed orange and most of my cats contain a light dusting of turmeric. This is the cats damn fault. They should know better than to be …

You Never Think This Could Happen Here

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 4, 2015

You never expect that someone you went to high school with will turn out to be a mass murderer.         I didn’t anyways. I grew up in a small rural town surrounded by pine forests.         Most of my good friends I knew since Kindergarten. We were a …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
