Life of Adventure

The view from my porch…

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 3, 2011

I’m sitting on my balcony enjoying the spring time feel in the air in my rural mountain town. In the distance I can hear my neighbors chicken’s making farm like noises. Traffic is whizzing past on the highway below. I’d like to say I got up at five a.m. to watch the sunrise with my …

Hola! El Ojo! Donde Beano?

By Amber Woods on Monday, May 2, 2011

Maybe I met the man of my dreams in this mornings light? As the sun begun to climb over the deserts hills he smiled at me as he removed the stacks of  bread from his towering 18 wheeler. In broken Spanish he asked if he could ask me a question. I expected “Banos?” Instead he said, …

Get off my Road!

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 30, 2011

Do people really think I enjoy honking at them for twelve miles straight? Fifteen miles an hour is not a reasonable speed in an area that has a posted speed limit of 55.  That Sammy Hagar song? Yeah, some days I feel like those words were written just for me. I’m sorry but my biceps start …

“One latte, Bubba, please”

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 28, 2011

Why are tattoo places so gross? What if I just want to get my tattoo fixed in a tranquil spa setting? Wouldn’t it be nice if Bubba could fix my ink, and at the same time Iris could paint my nails and pick the dirt out of between my toes? (this is why I’m really …

Spring time in the mountains

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 26, 2011

When I actually had grass growing in my backyard a few years ago ? I just finished reading the Bucolic Plague and it has me in the mood for spring time! This book is so great, about restoring an old farm just outside of New York City, it makes me want to get out in …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
