“One latte, Bubba, please”

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 28, 2011

Why are tattoo places so gross? What if I just want to get my tattoo fixed in a tranquil spa setting? Wouldn’t it be nice if Bubba could fix my ink, and at the same time Iris could paint my nails and pick the dirt out of between my toes? (this is why I’m really …

Spring time in the mountains

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 26, 2011

When I actually had grass growing in my backyard a few years ago ? I just finished reading the Bucolic Plague and it has me in the mood for spring time! This book is so great, about restoring an old farm just outside of New York City, it makes me want to get out in …

This morning I awoke at five a.m. ready to go to work! Wide awake and I wasn’t even needing any coffee! Then I slooowwwllllyyyy drove to work in a little bit of fog behind some guy also in a Subaru at 15 miles an hour. I would give this fog a 4, on the daytime …

Mo and I have so much in common and Kentucky Derby Party Recipes

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 23, 2011

Its almost Kentucky Derby day. In the bluegrass of Kentucky spindly legged baby foals are a few months old right now. They are galloping at full throttle through the lush bluegrass. In no time they will be making the rounds  through the auction rings at Keenland to the tune of a couple million, sons and daughters …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
