Duck, Duck Goose

By Amber Woods on Thursday, July 21, 2011

Finally smoked the damn duck for Tyler today! I know it took me like a month to actually get to it. After a day of drinking beers at the lake threw the duck and some chicken on the grill with some cowboy coffee rub. It tasted okay, kind of reminded me of liver. Give …

Hitting People With Sticks

By Amber Woods on Monday, July 18, 2011

When I was eighteen instead of drinking and partying and smoking and having sex like a typical teenager, I had a different hobby. I liked to hit people with sticks. It started when Eric, a good friend who was in drama with me, asked if I wanted to learn how to fence. It sounded …

God Bless America!

By Amber Woods on Thursday, July 14, 2011

Its nice to be home, and not living in a fifth wheel trailer without flushing toilet. Yes, this was my only complaint about being “Trailer Trash”  Now I’m sitting on my porch covered in two sweaty long haired cats who missed me THISMUCH, listening to the sounds of my neighbors coming down off of …

Just another day in the mountains, with many injuries

By Amber Woods on Thursday, July 14, 2011

Yesterday I had a sneaking suspicion I f’ed up my car getting here….. And then this happened….. Yes, that is hail and heavy, heavy rain. Gotta love those mountain summer Thunderstorms! Luckily we found this rocky ledge to hide under and try to keep our cameras and our beers dry. Ten Minutes later the sun …

The Firestone Tire Incident

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Lets call this the Firestone tire incident. Do you remember in 2000 when Firestone recalled 6.5 million  tires? I remember it clearly as I was a victim of quite a few of these explosive tires. News flash! When a company recalls a product you buy and use, such as tires, check your vehicle and see …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
