The Summer of 89 Makes Me Want to Throw up A Little

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 8, 2014

Sometimes I feel like I must repress some of my child hood memories and then they come flooding back to me at the mention of a subject like mushy lettuce.    Oh yes, mushy, chewy slime like lettuce brings back the memories of the Whoppers and the summer of eighty nine.   The summer of 1989 I …

The 2014 World of Dating # I would rather Hang out with my Cat on a Friday Night

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 7, 2014

It’s kind of embarrassing but yes I have a Twitter account.    I will be the first to admit I do not understand the first thing about Twitter.    Like the whole hash tag thing; I just don’t get it.    A few months ago while I was still doing the whole single thing I found …

You can take the mountain girl out of the mountain but…

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 5, 2014

“Babe! Did that pelican just eat a bird?” I am standing on the Oceanside Pier with my boyfriend, it’s a chilly partly sunny fall day and the pelicans are extremely friendly.      And possibly way to hungry.      It’s weird, and it’s Halloween today so maybe a little spooky?     …

Love Life Outside

On a Foggy Forest Night

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 31, 2014

I grew up I’m a forest full of trees. My home was chock in the middle of the San Bernardino National Forest. My street emptied into fields of Live Oaks, Jeffrey Pines and cedar trees. Pussy Willows sprouted as weeds do, lush and every where along the trickling creek bed. I grew up hiking …

Pumpkin Raviolis with Pancetta and Sage

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, October 29, 2014

I’ve done a lot of embarrassing things in my life.      I’ve farted on my chiropractor.      I’ve ripped my ass out of my pants at work and not noticed until the end of my eight hour shift.      Obviously at the end of my first half marathon I had …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
