Gluten Free Vegan Banana Date Pancakes

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, August 11, 2015

The coffee  was made. Our formally frozen sleeping bags defrosted and most of our camping gear put away, we were ready to conquer the mountain. We both changed into our short shorts, grabbed our packs and began the trek up to White Mountain. The beginning of the hike started at almost 12,000 feet so it …

Adventures in Bishop (Stealing Pillows Addition)

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 9, 2015

I should probably not make myself off as a complaining little scalawag. The kind of wench who steals pillows and lamp shades from hotel rooms but the Creek Side Inn located in Bishop had it coming to them. We also had a fantastic reason for needing the pillows (we didn’t actually steal lamp shades; I was …

Cheesy Swiss Turnip Casserole

By Amber Woods on Thursday, August 6, 2015

Tragically my organic CSA box today had no green beans in it. No problem I thought and I turned my plans for a green bean casserole into a turnip casserole. If you get turnips in your CSA and you have no clue what to do with them ( as I did!) they are also great …

Spicy Coconut Cashew Eggrolls with Serrano Peppers

By Amber Woods on Thursday, August 6, 2015

My boyfriend and I have a running joke that every meal he cooks for me is the best thing he has ever made me. I feel like every time I take Carly on an adventure it is the best day of her life. We use the word “adventure” in our household now because she can understand …

What Happens When you Drink Chipmunk Juice…

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, August 4, 2015

I thought I heard a person talking to me this morning on the Whitney Trail. I had been hiking alone for more than an hour. That would seem like to early to get the Mt Whitney crazies but I had been drinking Chipmunk Juice. (Jack 3D Work Out Supplement) I stopped at about 10,000 feet …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
