Here you have it, folks, a lazy-but-delicious Indian snack for tired hikers and hungry people. If you love authentic, spicy Indian meals, then you have to try this easy samosa recipe.
These are hands-down the easiest samosas you will ever make.
After a full day of snowshoeing — the kind where you burn roughly 1,000 calories while fasting all morning, seriously, it’s like real-life Hunger Games over here— I need an Indian snack that requires minimal effort and zero emotional investment. At that point, I toss my wet snowshoes on the floor, stare into the kitchen, and absolutely refuse to care.
Are these samosas a “healthy lunch”? No.
Do I care after hiking through snow all day? Also no.
This is where shortcut samosas using pre-made wonton wrappers come in.
Why Wonton Wrappers Are the Best Samosa Hack
Let’s address the elephant (or possibly the Norwegian Forest Cat) in the room.
Why spend an hour making samosa dough — flour everywhere, counters destroyed, Norwegian Forest Cats coated in gluten — when you can use store-bought wonton wrappers and get the same crispy, golden results?
Please don’t cancel me for cultural appropriation, but these ethnic fusion samosas are:
- Faster
- Cleaner
- Way less rage-inducing
- Shockingly authentic once fried
Wonton wrappers crisp beautifully, seal easily, and are perfect for air fryer samosas or classic deep frying.
Endless Easy Samosa Filling Options
One of the best things about making samosas at home is flexibility. These easy samosas with wonton wrappers can be filled with just about anything.
For this recipe, I made onion samosas, but they’re also excellent with:
If you’re meal prepping, make a huge batch — samosas freeze beautifully and reheat like a dream in the air fryer.
And if I’m already heating up a Dutch oven full of oil, I’m frying everything. Including pappadums. Obviously.
What to Serve With Easy Samosas
These crispy South Asian appetizers beg for dipping.

How to Make Easy Onion Samosas with Wonton Wrappers
1 package of wonton wrappers
1 small white onion
1 serrano chili, sliced thin
3 teaspoons of ghee
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon ketchup
1 teaspoon tamarind paste
1 cup of chicken bone broth
1 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 cup of water
Instructions
- Roast the Serrano Chili
Heat ghee in a wok or deep pan. Roast the serrano chili until fragrant. Remove and set aside. - Cook the Onions Properly
Add sliced onions to the ghee and cook low and slow for at least 10 minutes until deeply softened and lightly caramelized.
Blend the Base
Transfer the cooked onions and chili to a NutriBullet or blender. Blend until smooth, adding a splash of water if needed.- Build the Masala
Return the mixture to the wok. Add garlic, ginger, cumin, and coriander. Cook gently, adding small amounts of water as needed, for about 10 minutes. - Finish the Filling
Stir in ketchup, then gradually add chicken bone broth. Add tamarind and simmer for 30 minutes, reducing until thick and rich. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool completely.
Assemble the Wonton Wrapper Samosas
Lay wonton wrappers on a clean counter.
Spoon cooled filling into the center.
Fold into a cone shape.
Seal edges with egg wash.
Fry
Deep Fry: Fry in oil at 350°F until golden, about 2–3 minutes per side.
Lazy, Delicious, and Worth It
So yes — this is how easy it is to make homemade samosas with wonton wrappers that taste like you actually know what you’re doing.
They’re fast. They’re freezer-friendly. They don’t destroy your kitchen. And they taste incredible after a long day outside when you truly do not care about food rules.
Shortcut cooking is still cooking.
