Cancel Culture Kentucky Derby Picks 2022

By Amber Woods on Saturday, May 7, 2022

As a horse racing fan I can’t imagine a Thoroughbred world without Bob Baffert in it. What the haters and the liberal media is doing to the sport of kings is unfathomable. As a horse racing fan and a California horse racing fan, you will never hear me say a bad word about this sport …

Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad with Spiced Pecans

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 3, 2022

On a Monday morning, there is a good chance you can find me on top of a mountain with some of the best views of the Big Bear valley down below me. I might be relaxing with my green juice and taking just a few moments of zen in this crazy life. The zen and …

Vegas BC. (Before Covid)April first dawned like a terrible joke. I was so dizzy I could barely get out of bed, my head was pounding and I had no voice. Why yes, I had just returned from a few days of dancing all night in Vegas and quite possibly I sang along very loudly with …

Spring Time Snow Shoeing Exploits in Mammoth Lakes California

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 21, 2022

Attempting to visit the eastern Sierra in early springtime is no easy trip to plan. Info about the trails of the eastern Sierras in the first week of spring is very hard to find online. Any information about what kind of equipment you should bring is like a guessing game. Luckily for me, I bought …

The Best of Southern California’s Springtime Shenanigan’s

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 16, 2022

It was a Monday in April and there I was poolside with a healthy green juice clenched in my hand and a good book resting at my side. I had spent all morning hiking amongst the wildflowers in a hidden nature preserve just outside of Los Angeles. The skies were the kind of agua blue …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
