That One Time I Had Fun in Hemet

By Amber Woods on Saturday, July 18, 2015

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the massive ranch house was Seattle Slew’s blankly. Yes, I mean Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Draped over a couch ( what kind of couch? I have no idea; I was mesmerized by the most price list piece of thoroughbred horse racing history I have ever …

South West Breakfast Sandwich with Spicy Cream Cheese, Bacon and Green Chilis

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, July 15, 2015

There’s nothing like soaking your feet in freezing cold creek water after a long hike. And than realizing you have leeches on your legs. I would like to say that this is the first time I had the whole leeches experience but that would be a lie. Yes, I am a mountain girl, now why do …

Just the Tip

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Tippy loves to cause problems. When he is not starring at me like a creep with those haunting Garth Brooks eyes, he’s usually up to something. Maybe he’s swam so far into the lake trying to catch a duck that I really think he is going to drown this time. ( I mean, he swam …

How to make your own Turmeric Capsules, or that one time I had Orange Cats

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, July 14, 2015

I just spent five minutes chasing my cats around the house with a jar of coconut oil. If I was putting coconut oil in my hair than we were all getting a little coconut oil on us today. I figure if I massage a little into their fur it will be good for them, right? …

Where I Used to Run

By Amber Woods on Monday, July 13, 2015

I used to run the trails of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Last fall feels like a life time ago. The leaves of the Aspen grove, our only Aspen grove in our entire mountain range, did a mesmerizing yellow-orange dance in the fall breeze. After off roading up a back country road that would scare off most …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
