BBQ Goat Cheese, Peppercine Pizza on BBQed Pizza Crust

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 24, 2015

What time are you coming over tonight? We are having pizza. I have sauce, mozzarella cheese pepperoni and mushrooms. See you this afternoon. If anyone else received this text from their father they would probably assume they were being invited home to dinner, right? Not in our household. I was driving half an hour to …

Cog

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

There’s a lot of things I just can’t do. I can’t sew. I can’t snap my fingers. And I can’t whistle. This last one would be a problem when you constantly hike with a little dog off leash and need to get her attention. So being the cat lady that I am I have started …

Crunchy Hummus Slaw Salad with Golden Raisins and Sunflower Seeds

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

You really never notice how blue the sky is until you are at 13,000 feet. It’s such an amazing dark blue against the white of Mt Whitneys switchbacks. It’s such a phenomenal sight as I rested my back against a boulder, my heart feeling like it would explode in my chest. This hike, is beyond …

Blanche Misses Sophia

By Amber Woods on Saturday, September 19, 2015

Blanche Misses Sophia. I’m pretty sure this little golden girl thinks that I’m taking her to “the farm” This is Carly’s first road trip and it’s a five hour one way road trip to the Eastern Sierras. To thank me for taking her on vacation she probably ate my sausage croissant as soon as I …

Tell Me About Your Town; Flatlander Edition

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 18, 2015

My Southern California life is a lot more dirt roads than shopping malls. It’s muddy running shoes, skinned knees and a mosquito squished sports bra and not True Reigion Jeans or six inch heels. I live in Southern California but not in the beaches and palm trees Southern California you are probably imagining. I live …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
