Subaru Screw Over Part 2

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 28, 2017

I will never buy another Subaru again after the bullshit I went through in the last week at the Subaru of San Bernardino. You would expect at a dealership where you had been a steady customer for the last ten years the management would not treat their customers like utter crap, but if you think that way …

Fig and Goat Cheese Whole Grain Turkey Toasts

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 25, 2017

If it’s a summer day in late August then I hope we are camping at the lake. If it’s that time of August when the wind is picking up and there is a taste of Autumn’s chill on the air then I am probably siting in a camping chair by the lake, fishing pole in hand …

Butternut Squash and Goat Cheese Gratin

By Amber Woods on Saturday, September 23, 2017

I think when you try to trade in your Subaru the first question they ask you is ” Do you own a dog” and depending on your answer your trade in value could go down by a thousand dollars. Not that my Subaru is any where near new these days with over 63,000 mountain miles …

Butternut Squash Macaroni and Cheese (gluten free!)

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 21, 2017

Some time It helps to be a mountain girl. I know where the wild blackberries grow in the autumn, and the best time of day to pick them and avoid rattlesnakes and tourists ( which do I loathe more?) I know where the wild mint grows deep in the rushing waters of our chilly …

Butternut Squash Pizza with Sage Pesto and Goat Cheese

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 20, 2017

I missed the week we had fall. We were out-of-town vacationing down San Diego way for seven days the one week we had glorious rain storms in our small mountain town. I missed days of rumbling thunder, lightning and hail that sent my kitty cats running under couches in terror. I missed afternoons cuddling up …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
