Mirchi Ka Salan Chili Peppers Braised In Coconut Soup

By Amber Wood on Sunday, October 31, 2021

I would just like to say, I simply adore traveling to India and all the sites, foods and smells that entails. Okay, maybe not all of the smells. I could do without the smells of that river over yonder that is also the town toilet, or that cow that just pooped in the middle of …

Paneer and Peas Tikka Masala

By Amber Wood on Monday, October 25, 2021

The first time I had tikka masala I was in London, twenty-five years old and a little scared of Indian food. After all the bullshit I had been fed back in California about how bland and God-awful English food was I wanted to run straight towards a familiar restaurant. Take me to the Olive Garden. …

Leaf Peepin our way through the eastern Sierras

By Amber Wood on Friday, October 22, 2021

Rain! Thunder! Lightning! Snow! Does that sound like your kind of vacation? Our family usually treks to the eastern Sierras to witness mother nature in all her stunning beauty for the fall colors each October. Nothing makes me happier than leaf peeping eastern Sierras fun. But you don’t get weather in southern California, all you …

How to Make An Authentic Indian meal in a 34 Foot RV

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, October 19, 2021

Camping is not for everyone. I get that. It takes a badass attitude to deal with some of the challenges that come with camping, motorhome living or trying to be one of the best RV chefs in a hundred-mile radius.   Just tent camping with the family can be hard enough when you wake up …

BBQ Bacon Avocado Jalapeno Poppers

By Amber Wood on Saturday, October 16, 2021

The crash and boom of thunderstorms have me enjoying this ever so slight chill in the air on this late summer afternoon. I feel blessed that this humid summer’s day led to a rainy afternoon and that has me craving something hot, spicy and wrapped in bacon; Like Jalapeno Poppers. A Curried Eggplant Tamarind Stew would …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
