Whole Wheat Pasta Salad with Marinated Mushrooms, Artichokes, Feta, Etc

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 6, 2013

The last week has been nothing but late season thunderstorms.   Each fat rain drop that hits my windshield is like a splash of happiness in my heart. I love the rain so very much. I’m in an exceptional good mood as I just booked my next vacation… three days in a sweet suite in Las …

BBQ Buffalo Burgers ( Oh Buffalo; You smell so bad yet Taste so Good!)

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 5, 2013

The grasslands of North America used to be a place where the majestic yet smelly buffalo roamed free.    That was before they were hunted to near extinction which is really to bad because buffalo is quite delicious and way lower in fat as compared to beef and yet higher in protein.   According to Wikipedia there is a …

11-04-08 A Flash Back

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, September 3, 2013

November Fourth 2008 should have been a horrible evening for conservative voting me. It should have been, but it was not. It was the end of an era. The Republicans were being voted out of office. Even though I made a point to stand behind John McCain from the primaries, my heart wasn’t in it. …

My Face Hurts and a Recipe for Carbanara Macaroni and Cheese

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 2, 2013

Any one who knows me knows that I eat. A lot. A good friend once told me that I talk about food so much that if you were to speak to me on the phone, having never met me, one would think I would be a rather plump lady as ALL I TALK ABOUT …

1,600 Feet Below Duck’s Pass Lake

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 1, 2013

My last day of my Sierras vacation I had plans to do a epic run in the forest.   I had talked to friends who knew the area better than me and a few different hikes had been recommended.   I decided to do Duck’s Pass up near Lake Mary and Mammoth Mountain.   The Duck’s Pass …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
