Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Bacon Jerky

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 2, 2015

My boyfriend and I have a tradition. Whenever we make it to the top of a peak we have to consume a bag of Trader Joe’s bacon jerky. Maybe its that we are peak bagging a lot lately or maybe we are just jerky addicts but we seem to be consumed with our love of …

Over Night Oatmeal with Dried Fruit and Walnuts

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, March 31, 2015

This “winter” in Southern California has been pathetic. Just as one example of that was we had to hike eight miles and three thousand feet in altitude again up hill just to find a little snow to make snow shoeing possible. My boyfriend really, really wanted to try out his new Yukon snow shoes so a …

Justice in California is Nothing more than a Joke

By Amber Woods on Friday, March 27, 2015

California. The Annual tournament of Roses parade every New Years Day makes it seem like a utopia. Imagine Sunny Los Angeles January first; floats covered in millions of gorgeous roses and expensive horses decked out in liveries finest, pulling decked out carts and wagons down Colorado Boulevard. To anyone trapped inside on an eighty degree California morning by a …

Gnocchi Pecorino Chicken Soup

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 26, 2015

There were a lot of places I hated going as a kid. Chasing my dad through the isles of Home Depot was always a terrible day. If we were at the Home Depot that meant something was broken at home and dad was probably pissed off. When dad was mad he would walk fast and …

I come from a long line of Chipmunks…

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, March 25, 2015

My boyfriend is constantly reminding me that I’m a chipmunk and I need to settle down. I have bad news for him; it looks like it’s genetic! Today is my grandmas eighty fifth birthday. Last night she told me a story about how she was crawling up on the kitchen counters so that she could …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
