Adventures via Big Sur Way

By Amber Woods on Monday, June 13, 2016

This morning while zigzagging up the PCH on my way to Big Sur I passed people older than my parents who are biking up this route, every inch of it straining uphill. These people blew me away. I am in incredible shape, and I’m not even in the kind of shape I was a year ago when …

That One Time I got in a fight with Jeff Siegel

By Amber Woods on Thursday, June 2, 2016

If there is one thing I love more than the ponies it is cheese. This may only be a funny story if you are a horse racing fan or (and) have had it up to here with technology. Or if you really, really like cheese. Tonight a Siegel stole my cheese. According to iPhone voice …

By Amber Woods on Sunday, May 29, 2016

I had exactly an hour and a half to run today before meeting friends for happy hour and market night in the valley below the forest. Sounded like the perfect night to go for a run and explore the San Gorgonio Wilderness for the first time!I managed to get off work at three o clock …

I gave in today and bought a Go Girl. Camping at the beach was the last straw. After having to get up to walk to the beach bathroom four times last night when I finally pulled myself from my warm sleeping bag at dawn and gave up on sleep the first thing I did was …

Adventures of a Ding Dong

By Amber Woods on Thursday, May 26, 2016

Here we have the majestic ding dong. You may find her out on walkabout in the San Bernardino National Forest in the Cougars Crest Trail area. The wild ding dong is terrified of PCT through hikers and their ginormous backpacks and will run three miles in the opposites direction if she spots one coming up …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
