India Here we come!

By Amber Wood on Sunday, December 11, 2016

I love everything about traveling. Some people may be annoyed and stressed out over thirty hours of travel to reach the other side of the world but I see every part of travel as a new adventure waiting to happen. If I never left my snowy mountain home I would have far fewer adventures. I …

Happy Holidays; Cat Edition

By Amber Wood on Saturday, December 10, 2016

I’m not getting all this excitement over Cyber Monday? I’ve got news for you, I have been searching all morning for a sweater for my cat and this 2017 Amazon Cyber Monday deals have let me down big time. Now, I know what you are thinking; what kind of cat needs a sweater? This cat. …

Baby it’s Cold Outside; Or Maybe I’m Just High

By Amber Wood on Friday, December 9, 2016

I love Christmas music. I really do. I am that person that is blaring Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas the minute I leave Thanksgiving dinner. I decorate the tree to Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, dancing around my mountain cabin and Dreaming of a White Christmas (The Mindy Smith version of course) Every …

The Hungry Mountaineer; Injured AGAIN!!

By Amber Wood on Friday, December 9, 2016

After living through a hellish year of being chained to our front porch with horrendous back pain any little step backwards is more like a summer sault. I just lived through almost an entire week of back pain that once again had me bored on the front porch for days and days and days. Nearly …

Greek Yogurt Salmon Spread

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, December 7, 2016

If it’s a Tuesday morning at six a.m. I’m probably sweating in our living room. It’s barely light outside but my boyfriend and I are already doing burpees and power squats while Sean T yells at us from the t.v. in the corner. At first the dogs are always confused by us jumping around like …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
