A normal Tuesday in the Woodyard home…

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, June 5, 2012

My dad just called me to ask me if I would go dust his rattle snake.   Does this happen to anyone else?   Just to clarify, the rattle snake is dead.   He is in the process of skinning it to make a belt. I guess he left it in the kitchen window ( “Because it’s …

Nutty Rice Crispy Treats

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, June 5, 2012

I’ve never ever been a fan of Rice Crispy Treats, until I tried the healthy version. I never cared for them because they are to chewy and my jaw gets tired.A “cookie” shouldn’t make you be in pain, not til afterwards when you eat all of them plus extra cookie batter and are stuck on the …

Snakes!

By Amber Woods on Saturday, June 2, 2012

Life’s little problems seem real small when you almost step on a rattle snake in the middle of an empty forest. All I can hear around me are the birds chirping in the trees, the lizards scurrying through brush, and all I see is my life flashing before my eyes as my foot hangs …

Kids These Days

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, May 30, 2012

When I complain about the youth of America,  which I do quiet a lot because lets face facts, I love to complain, what I mean is any one younger then thirty. What I mean is anyone younger then me. I’m talking about anyone who is old enough to know better.   I’m talking about “kids” who are old …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
