Mt Baldy Madness

By Amber Woods on Saturday, September 8, 2012

The first four and a half miles was an easy jog through an alpine forest. This part of the run, for me  was typical, easy even. After that you cross the Devil’s Back Bone. The trail is just that, a single track trail on both sides with a severe drop off and you run, …

An Ode to an Ex Boy Friend

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 26, 2012

Next time I get the idea to date a vegetarian would someone please smack me in the neck? You know what frustrates me? Having to wash my hair before a date because it smells like bacon. I need to find a man who will love me for my bacon hair dammit! Further more I need …

Schools Back in Session!

By Amber Woods on Friday, August 24, 2012

It must be fall even though it’s only late August if Red Neck Mom is back at the corner bus stop screaming at the top of her lungs, smoking and cussing at her kids, right? That’s what I thought, and why I have ignored my sunny wood porch swings every day this week until today. …

You Know You live in the 909 When…

By Amber Woods on Friday, August 17, 2012

I was perusing Craigslist this morning when I came across something special.    Only in the 909 do people keep Bambi as a pet.   I came across this ad I have a pure breed Saanen doe that I want to breed in August, so I’m looking for a purebreed buck to have her bred …

Snow Flake

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, August 15, 2012

My best friend has been back in the States with me for four months. Since that cold February day, the sun has emerged and it is summer time at last.   In the last four months I have watched her run after a truck that was taking her porta potty away while wailing    “Nooo!!! Bring …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
