Eye Told You So

By Amber Woods on Monday, May 7, 2012

This morning  I ran as the sun rose among the pine trees. I ran with sunglasses on and eyes squinted half shut. This was not because I had returned home to my cabin at midnight and flung my exhausted body out of bed before dawn at four, but due to the fact that my eyes …

Redneck Mom Strikes Again

By Amber Woods on Saturday, May 5, 2012

Have I mentioned I hate my neighbor’s? My house sits above the children’s bus stop and every morning I like to sit on my balcony and enjoy the silence of the mountain’s aside from the EXTREMELY LOUD OH GOD WHY DO THEY WAKE UP AT FOUR A.M. birds chirping. I just want to sit on my balcony in my …

Red Breasted Nut Hatch

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 30, 2012

Call me a mean person.   Go ahead do it.     Not going to lie, it might be true.    I might be mean, but I’m messing with my cats.   It started by accident.    I was researching birds of the San Bernardino Mountains (Now I sound like a nerd, I am not a Birder!) trying to figure …

Bertha, That Bitch

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 28, 2012

I’m sitting on a piece of flat granite in a silent morning forest.  This granite rock is the perfect shape for my butt and my butt needs a break. I’m going to run 13.1 miles today. I’m going to run a half marathon distance for the first time in my life. I’m at mile …

BOOBS BOOBS BOOOOOOBBBSS!! A day at Ye Old Faire

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 25, 2012

This one time, some where in Brittan, a passport agent yelled at me “Take off that ridiculous hat!”      And it began; my love affair with hats so crazy that they inspired anger in government officials.    I had bought the wool hat a few days prior in our shopping excursion to Nottinghill. It was a warm wool winters …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
