Under The Midnight Sun

On the Haul Road; Two Hundred Miles North of Fairbanks

By Amber Woods on Saturday, September 14, 2013

We were heading south on the Haul Road about twenty five miles south of the Arctic Circle, Ryan and I was almost nodding off in the back when Steven suddenly said      ” Oh Shit” Two A.M. in Alaska just below the Arctic Circle      We were coming down one of the steep grades, and a …

A Review of Muller’s Yogurt and a recipe for Greek Yogurt Parfait with Raw Honey, Wild Berries and Ginger Granola

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Anyone who has been to Europe knows what good yogurt tastes like.    It tastes like creamy tangy heaven in your mouth. Besides building fast and sleek cars, those Germans know how to make some tasty yogurt.    I first went to Europe when I was twenty two. As soon as I landed in London on …

A Sweaty Hike to Yosemite Falls

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, September 10, 2013

I woke up at five a.m. to rain drops on the Coleman tent.     Fishing was postponed til six.    We slept in.    At six it started pouring down fat Sierra rain drops.    No fishing this August morning for us.    We had a hike planned in Yosemite Valley and had to make a simple bacony breakfast …

The last week has been nothing but late season thunderstorms.   Each fat rain drop that hits my windshield is like a splash of happiness in my heart. I love the rain so very much. I’m in an exceptional good mood as I just booked my next vacation… three days in a sweet suite in Las …

BBQ Buffalo Burgers ( Oh Buffalo; You smell so bad yet Taste so Good!)

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 5, 2013

The grasslands of North America used to be a place where the majestic yet smelly buffalo roamed free.    That was before they were hunted to near extinction which is really to bad because buffalo is quite delicious and way lower in fat as compared to beef and yet higher in protein.   According to Wikipedia there is a …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
