Amber Woods

Under The Midnight Sun

Meanwhile in Alaska….

By Amber Woods on Friday, April 11, 2014

A summer day in Alaska means fishing for fresh salmon on the Copper River.     It means fishing ALL DAY on the Copper River.     It means really feeling that we are Californians and not local Alaskans at all when we do not catch anything.  (even though we had been vacationing in the forty ninth …

Carrot Ginger Jalapeno Juice Shot

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 6, 2014

I wouldn’t drink a cup of this, I mean unless you enjoy sitting on the toilet and crying.   As a shot (and come on! Who doesn’t take shots at ten a.m!?) this is a great little breakfast drink.   I don’t actually shoot it; I sip this tasty breakfast beverage.   This is a great immune booster …

Mt Baldy in March

By Amber Woods on Sunday, March 30, 2014

“I’m going to have to put my pants back on!”        I shout the words behind me into sixty mile an hour winds completely unsure if J heard me or not.        The wind is raging so fast and so hard I might as well be talking to myself, he …

Am I To High For Ticks and Other Country Favorites

By Amber Woods on Friday, March 28, 2014

If I wrote a country song about my life this morning I would entitle that song    Am I to High for Ticks?    Thankfully after today’s ten mile hike not a tick was spotted.    Last week I was sick with the flu and the Mountaineer Adventure Outdoor Fun Club Yea went on an adventure with out …

A Patch of Ice

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 27, 2014

Its shocking to drive around a blind corner in the middle of the night to find a jeep upside down in the middle of the highway. Its happened to me three or four times now, stumbling upon a vehicle that has just flipped on icy mountain highways. But a jeep? I thought they were 4x4s, …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
