The Perils of the Spice Lifestyle

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 17, 2015

I’ve always been a fan of spicy foods. I remember when I was a kid going to my best friends house for breakfast and watching her dad put tabasco on his eggs. So I tried it. A fan of all things spicy was born. I don’t care if its adding roasted jalapenos and serranos to a …

Why Im Terrified of Figs, Oh And Also A Recipe for Bacon Wrapped Figs with Brie

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 16, 2015

I have a Fig Newton Phobia. Weird I know. But until you have had been forced to make Fig Newton’s at gun point you really can’t understand.      Okay maybe it didn’t happen exactly like that.      One time when I was a child of about seven or eight my mom made the mistake …

A Snow Day

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 15, 2015

The last few winters in this resort town have been horrific. Very little snow if any at all. Our once glorious evergreens are brown and rotting; the ones that survived the wildfire that raged through over 10,000 acres in June, anyway. It’s been so sad to see the ski slopes brown even in mid winter and not …

Je Prie Pour Vous Paris

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 14, 2015

The afternoon our train pulled into the Monte Marc station felt so safe. We disembarked and made our way into the warm welcoming arms of Paris; crepes, café cremes and stinky cheeses. As my boots touched the streets of Paris and I looked for the piles of dog poo I had read about as we …

Curried Raisin Oatmeal with Buckwheat Groats

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 13, 2015

This recipe was inspired by the delicious oatmeal I had at Moonridge Coffee after Carly and I ran four miles the other morning. Straw Propeller Foods makes the absolute best pre made oatmeal cups and muesli cereals. When I saw curry flavoured oatmeal I just thought that was really weird but the barista working behind …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
