Central Coast Shenanigans

The C Word

By Amber Woods on Monday, December 14, 2015

Our second day of our lovely beach vacation we went to the C word for lunch. If you ever find yourself hungry on the Central Coast you must visit the C word. Of course I’m sure locals don’t call it that. I’m sure locals can pronounce places like Paso Robles and Cayucos and Avila Beach …

Curried Cauliflower Rice

By Amber Woods on Friday, December 11, 2015

My favorite library is a brewery. This afternoon we spent the later hours enjoying an amazing picnic at Barrel House Brewery sipping on stouts, sour beers and saisons. It was a fantastic fall day in the rolling hills of he central coast. The red leaves on the Liquid Ambers and Maple trees that hugged the …

Disgruntled Republican Road Trip, Part One

By Amber Woods on Thursday, December 10, 2015

It was late November and it was time for these two disgruntled republicans to hit the open road. I had spent fifteen years of my life working in retail and I never got to experience the fun of the holiday season as a spectator and not a frazzled, exhausted retail employee. It’s so different to …

Greek Yogurt Adobe Sauce

By Amber Woods on Monday, December 7, 2015

Waking up in a ski tell is a fantastic feeling. Living in a ski town is even better. Us locals don’t even care when we wake up and it’s 25°  degrees and it’s not even late fall as we step into our Subaru’s, windows frosted over from the night before. 25° at dawn means it’s going to be …

The Weirdest Day in the IE

By Amber Woods on Thursday, December 3, 2015

Wednesday morning I woke up early before dawn and went to run hills with my best friend. It was a perfectly ordinary but chilly morning in Southern California.  As we ran up and down the rolling perfectly manicured hills of Orange County it seemed such an idyllic setting under the chilly winter California sun. We …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
