Dandelions; It’s What’s For dinner!

By Amber Woods on Sunday, July 9, 2017

When I was a kid picking the weeds and dealing with the back yard was the worst job ever. It was almost as bad as cleaning my hoarder fathers garage. All of us kids hated the dandelions because my dad taught us to hate them. These sunshine yellow bastards blew their seeds all across the yard …

Not So Fair Play

By Amber Woods on Friday, July 7, 2017

You know you are a spoiled brat of the outdoors when you judge the mountains of Colorado for not being pretty enough. I might be a forest snob as Fair Play, Colorado did not impress me at all, of course that could be because we camped at  Middle Earth RV park. Oh I’m sorry did …

How to Deodorize Naturally

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, July 5, 2017

I just climbed to the top of a 12,000 mountain and it’s a very good thing I am the only human being on this deserted Sierra Nevada peak because I’m a natural deodorant fanatic and right now I smell like a natural deodorant fanatic. I like to climb mountains. Sometimes I ride my Cannondale mountain …

Albacore Sashimi Avocado and Broccoli Bowl

By Amber Woods on Sunday, July 2, 2017

Some days I bike twenty miles. Okay, actually one day recently I mountain biked twenty miles. When I put myself through a hellish workout easy sashimi for dinner sounds amazing! Today’s bike ride wasn’t easy, not at all. That right there was the longest ride I ever have done in my life and it included …

The Latest and Greatest Natural Sunscreen

By Amber Woods on Friday, June 30, 2017

I’m an outdoors kind of girl. What that means is I go through vats of natural sunscreen every summer and buckets of natural sunscreen every spring. Yes even on those cold, cloudy and overcast winter days I use bottles of natural sunscreen. I feel like every Saturday when I go to Whole Foods I’m picking …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
