My 2022 secondhand clothing treasure finds

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, October 11, 2022

I’ve been slogging my way it feels like straight uphill for five miles now under a hot mountainous but still kind of deserty sunshine. I thought we were going to get thunderheads today but they never aspired. So my pup and I have been sweating our way up this dusty trail and it might only …

Pumpkin and Chicken Dog Snacks

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 8, 2022

Today we took the old lady on a leisurely stroll through the fall leaves. Some might call it a hike. After a stroll through autumn, or a hike or whatever you may call it, the old lady loves some homemade dog treats, especially if they are full of homegrown pumpkin. Once upon a time, my …

Last week our Hiker Babe Big Bear group went on our annual stroll through the fall colors with your favorite pup walk. And I of course, as the leader of the group brought homemade pumpkin spice lattes for everyone. This powder is so ridiculously, fresh and aromatic. You will never ever go back to another …

Welcome back to the Adventures of The Hungry Mountaineer and adventure dog! This dog has no common sense most days but this morning I …

Cookie Cobbler Cardamom Peach Muffins

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 29, 2022

In the immortal words of Green Day circa 1996, Millions of peaches, peaches for me/ Millions of peaches, peaches for free. What would you do with millions of peaches? Okay, actually what should I do with one hundred peaches? That is the question this very early fall. The answer would be to bake many peach …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
