Bertha, That Bitch

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 28, 2012

I’m sitting on a piece of flat granite in a silent morning forest.  This granite rock is the perfect shape for my butt and my butt needs a break. I’m going to run 13.1 miles today. I’m going to run a half marathon distance for the first time in my life. I’m at mile …

BOOBS BOOBS BOOOOOOBBBSS!! A day at Ye Old Faire

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 25, 2012

This one time, some where in Brittan, a passport agent yelled at me “Take off that ridiculous hat!”      And it began; my love affair with hats so crazy that they inspired anger in government officials.    I had bought the wool hat a few days prior in our shopping excursion to Nottinghill. It was a warm wool winters …

Adventure on the 330

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Last week I complained about the spectacular heat while I was running at Manzanita Flats and it was only seventy five degrees at the time. Since then the temperatures have soared to near one hundred degrees. Its been hot; I’ve complained… alot.    The other night driving home from work at midnight I saw some …

Welcome back to Cougar Crest

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 23, 2012

You know what pisses me off almost as much as rattle snakes?    People who put fake plastic snakes in the middle of trails.    Not funny.    Not funny even if your a twelve year old boy.    No one will be laughing when I almost have a heart attack jumping over a fake plastic snake on …

When it rains, it pours

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 21, 2012

I thought I was accomplishing things today. And then my garbage disposal fell out of the sink. Great, that means time to get on the phone with one of the most popular Plumbers in Highlands Ranch. Johnny was over helping me assemble the book shelf that I had just bought, plus I had just taken …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
