A Sustainable Fashionistas Journey Through the Wild West

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, August 15, 2023
Huckleberry Steak Sauce

I just spent a week in Jackson Wyoming hiking some of the most scenic wilderness this side of the Tetons. Obviously, I did all those treks wearing my favorite of my most cherished sustainable fashion finds. As a devotee to everything the outdoors, nature and this lovely planet of ours of course I try to …

Five Spice Porky Paella with Coconut Milk & Star Anise

By Amber Woods on Friday, August 11, 2023

Nothing says happy fourth of July like this Asian paella. My Asian Cilantro Coconut Cream Paella is a mix mash of so many cultures and flavors. Coconut milk in paella, are you nuts, the Spanish may ask? But here I am whisking up a delicious porky paella in the middle of a cattle ranch in …

My Favorite Roadside Indian Restaurant Dhabas Gobi Subji

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 6, 2023

I never expected to be having Butter Chicken for breakfast in the prairie lands of northern Texas. But Texas can be a surprising place. Eight weeks on the highways, byways and I-whatevers of America taught me that I know nothing about this great country of ours. I had no idea what state had the worst …

Saratoga Springs; Health, History, Horses, Humidity

By Amber Woods on Monday, July 31, 2023

I think I have had Taylor Swifts Welcome to New York stuck in my head for six days straight. Or maybe it’s just that the madness of upstate New York humidity is getting to me. When we planned to drive from southern California to upstate New York in the summertime, sure I knew it would …

Wasabi Aioli Fries with Bison Sirloin

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, July 25, 2023
Dahi Samosa Chaat

Obviously when in Montana you have to go out for sushi right? Or at least buy all the bison steak you can find. On this cross-country road trip our family fell in love with all things bison steak. It breaks my heart bison steak is nearly impossible to purchase in southern California where we live. …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
