Carrot Cake Waffles

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 7, 2012

I had to run five miles this morning.    Why did I have to run five miles? Because of these Waffles.    I should thank IHOP for inspiring me to make Carrot Cake Waffles, as when I was there the other day their Carrot Cake Pancakes disgusted me.   That was not because they were bad, but …

So I have officially reentered the dating world and I am really excited about this new part of my life! I’m looking forward to finding someone who like to do the things I enjoy and just going out and having a good time! To make things a little easier on me, to find that …

Apple Pie Moonshine

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I live in a mountain community where they really do have a local homemade moonshine competition every year. Life in the mountains often includes making moonshine, camping in the forest on a cold autumns night and drinking said moonshine around a roaring camp fire with new found friends.    I have never entered the moon …

My New Baby Brother!

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 5, 2012

I turned thirty-two a few weeks ago. What I really wanted for my birthday was a pair of brand new Steve Madden leather boots from Nordstrom’s. What my parents got me was a brand new baby brother!    I have two brothers. Sean is twenty-seven and happily married to his nineteen-year-old wife Echo. (A …

A little Red Dot in a Bright Blue State

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 4, 2012

I can clearly remember the day my Grandma told me I was stupid. It was a glorious fall day in the mountains. The leaves on the oak trees in our neighborhood were just starting to change colors from green to red to burnt orange. Yes it was that time of year when friends and family start to …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
