By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 28, 2012

If you don’t like reading about bowel movements you might not want to read this next blog. If you do like reading about bowel movements, well you are just a weirdo. Anyways, I am what we might call extremely regular, so this morning I ran to the bathroom as normally do, to ah, take care …

Trabucu Canyon… Who knew?

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 27, 2012

I ended up going on a few dates last summer with this guy, we’ll just call him The Urban Cowboy, because he lives in Trabuco Canyon, which is like Southern California’s cowboy land. Trabuco Canyon is a place I had never been in my life even though it is literally like fifteen minutes from …

The Ten Best Moments in Holcomb Valley

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 25, 2012

Yesterday I ran my own half marathon at Holcomb Valley.    Let’s call it Run for a Cure (To find out why Amber is so stinky)    Turns out the answer was just cheese.    Anyways…   It was such an exhilarating morning run through an empty autumn forest. I saw three cars full of people during my …

My date with Bambi, almost

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 24, 2012

A big ass doe just almost side swiped me.   I was not in my brand new SUV almost wetting myself at the thought of hitting ANOTHER deer in ANOTHER brand new Subaru. (Please see February 2005 of my life, when I killed Bambi)   I was in the forest, running up Cougar Poop Trail, …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
