Farkles, the Amazing Farting Unicorn

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 28, 2013

Okay, I’ll admit it, some days are just boring.    Nothing exciting happened today.     I went to work, I went for a run, I came home and cooked something with goat cheese, the end.   So here is a blog I found about Farkles the farting unicorn (He farts sparkles?)     I was entertained. http://crappypictures.com/farkles-the-unicorn/

Rose Parade 2013

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 25, 2013

I’m pretty sure the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade was sponsored by the Church of Scientology.     It was a cold December night, the last night in December, 2012 to be exact. I was camping on the streets of Pasadena California with four good friends. We wanted to be up close and personal for …

California Dreaming, on Such a Winters Day

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 21, 2013

I feel so blessed on days like today.I live an hour from the beach in Southern California in a mountain town. Today I woke up a few miles from the beach and did a four-mile run on the soft sand with my best friend. I am so lucky to live in California. It feels like …

Pen Pals

By Amber Woods on Sunday, January 20, 2013

When I was a kid I had pen pals.    I didn’t have a typical childhood with video games and tons of toys and watching lots of T.V.     I spent my free time reading books and playing outside in the mud with my brothers. I loved to write and draw and writing letters to …

Club Escort

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 16, 2013

from 2000 to 2005 I drove a cherry red Ford Escort. It was my first new car. Okay it wasn’t brand new, but it had just over 10,000 miles on it and it was a real steal as it was a vehicle with a salvage title and I paid next to nothing for it. When …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
