Your Parents made you Eat Soap?!

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, March 26, 2013

I wonder if kids today get to enjoy or be tormented with the same things I faced as a child.     After hearing a coworkers streak of vile language at work the other day (Over something that was really not worth using three pieces of profanity in one sentence) I muttered to my other coworker    …

Date Banana Smoothie

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Although I live an hour from the date center of California, scenic Indio, home to date trees and lots and lots of meth, I had never had a date before a week ago.    I have seen Date Shakes on menus of Southern California shake shacks for years and yet never tried one.   I have …

The Summit of Keller’s Peak

By Amber Woods on Sunday, March 24, 2013

I’m sitting on my heating pad…   Yes, I am sitting on my heating pad again.   It seems like a bad joke one runner would ask another   “How do you know if you ran to far today?”   “Because you spend the evening sitting on a heating pad”    I ran fourteen miles today, seven of that up …

Lots and Lots of Snow

By Amber Woods on Saturday, March 23, 2013

Every time I run Keller’s Peak Road I expect it to be less snowy than it actually is. Every thing is fine, dry pavement and dry Asic running shoes, than I will come around a corner and discover this. Snow. Lots and lots of snow. I need a back pack that is big enough for …

That Unplowed Road

By Amber Woods on Friday, March 22, 2013

I totally had my heart set on doing a four mile pavement run this morning.    I found out the other day that about three miles of my upcoming race in March are on the pavement so I need to get my calves in better shape for the pavement running which has been harder on …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
