A Patch of Ice

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 27, 2014

Its shocking to drive around a blind corner in the middle of the night to find a jeep upside down in the middle of the highway. Its happened to me three or four times now, stumbling upon a vehicle that has just flipped on icy mountain highways. But a jeep? I thought they were 4x4s, …

Big Falls Hike in Forest Falls

By Amber Woods on Sunday, March 23, 2014

If we ever have another eighty degree day in February than this is a awesome winter hike.       If you feel like soaking your feet in a bone chillingly cold snow run off in a creek.       It is really pretty in any season up here in Forest Falls.       It’s just highly disappointing that …

Nojoqui Falls Hike and Eck! A Bear!

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, March 19, 2014

“Amber! There is a bear outside! It tore the picnic table apart, it sniffed the tent and now it’s attacking the tent!” “Jesus Jenn, You dreamt that. We are at the beach, there are no bears!”I was muttering this at my crazy friend to go back to sleep as the wind howled and shook our …

How to Pill a Cat

By Amber Woods on Sunday, March 16, 2014

The first time I tried to force my cat to swallow a vet prescribed antihistamine it was easy.      He had no idea what was going on as I pried his little mouth open and threw a tiny pill back there!      I felt like a champion!      “What is all the fuss about? Pilling a cat …

Carrot Apple Ginger Juice

By Amber Woods on Friday, March 14, 2014

It is ten A.M. and I think I’m high off of juice.    Yes that is right, carrots got me high.    Let me start out this post by saying I fucking hate carrots.    I hate them in soup, I hate them in salad; I have always been terrified to try them juiced I find their natural …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
