Spicy Curried Nut Mix

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 3, 2015

There is nothing like resting in the grass next to a babbling brook after a sixteen mile hike. This sixteen mile hike began at dawn and took us to summits above 11,100 feet and back down and up again and well all over the Little Lakes Valley. I feel like we saw all the …

Walnut Dark Chocolate Breakfast Balls

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 28, 2015

Today I am thankful for water shoes and cameras that don’t have dead batteries. I’m also thankful for GPS and the joys of getting lost in the forest. If we hadn’t gotten completely lost in Reds Meadow Carly Dog and I would not have wandered to the top of The Devil’s Post pile. We than would not …

Curried Trail Mix with Cranberries and Cashews

By Amber Woods on Saturday, September 26, 2015

Our second day camping in the Eastern Sierras I’m thankful for sponge baths. Carly and I got up before dawn to start our hike to Duck’s Pass this morning. We cleaned up our campsite on the mammoth scenic loop as the sun was still rising above our camp site. I threw some instant …

BBQ Goat Cheese, Peppercine Pizza on BBQed Pizza Crust

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 24, 2015

What time are you coming over tonight? We are having pizza. I have sauce, mozzarella cheese pepperoni and mushrooms. See you this afternoon. If anyone else received this text from their father they would probably assume they were being invited home to dinner, right? Not in our household. I was driving half an hour to …

Cog

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

There’s a lot of things I just can’t do. I can’t sew. I can’t snap my fingers. And I can’t whistle. This last one would be a problem when you constantly hike with a little dog off leash and need to get her attention. So being the cat lady that I am I have started …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
