Love Life Outside

Im not S.A.D.

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 11, 2015

I absolutely adoring this shitty weather. Unlike most Southern Californians after a few days of glorious rain, I get depressed when the sun comes out. I know, I’m a little Southern California weirdo. As I drove through fog, wind and snow today I enjoyed every gloomy moment of what is an extremely weak November storm. …

Pesto Zucchini “Pizzas”

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 10, 2015

It was 82 degrees and humid and I was pretty sure I had multiple bugs stuck and squished in my hair and in my sports bra. I had been running for two miles and I had ate three bugs already and had a fourth go up my nose. I wanted to cry but at least …

Love Life Outside

That time I was stranded in the forest with a bunch of drunk hicks…. What I mean is, every day….

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 8, 2015

Living in the mountains has its ups and downs. I love the winter snowstorms. I can stay curled up inside with my two cats for days, making soup, reading, yelling at cats, and watching horse racing on TVG. The summers in the mountains are just as peaceful. If I could I would spend everyday fishing …

Cats… Freedom on the Freeway

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 7, 2015

My father is a fan of saving a buck or two. When I was growing up that meant collecting spare cans and never turning on a single light. I’m really good at seeing in the dark. That also means instead of fancy toys, growing up, we had cats, lots of cats. My mom didn’t buy …

Monster Eggs; or Why Dad is not allowed in the kitchen

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 6, 2015

One thing in life is guaranteed.     No not death.     Not taxes.     If Dad is in the kitchen, Mom is pissed off.     My Dad loves to cook and bake and it makes my clean freak mother crazy.     There is one thing my dad has always cooked very well;     My Dad makes the …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
