Clockers Corner and the newest IPhone Feature

By Amber Woods on Thursday, January 21, 2016

Last week I spent an early morning watching ponies working out on the track as the sun rose beneath the San Gabriel Mountains. It was truly the most amazing sunrise. I feel so blessed with my crazy California life to get to be out here trackside on mornings like this. I felt so much joy …

'Merica! Central Coast Shenanigans

Lobster Mushrooms with Pistachio Oil and Goat Cheese

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 18, 2016

It was late November and we were disgruntled republicans so we felt a central coast road trip was in order. Four days of whining about Donald Trump and comparing Ted Cruz to Nathan Lane and making far to many jokes about “feeling the Bern” the best cure for disgruntled republican fever was four days of …

A Night in Venezia

By Amber Woods on Saturday, January 16, 2016

It was our fourth night in Venice, at the end of day four of having way to much fun on the city that sits on ancient wooden stilts in the middle of the Adriatic Sea. It was also the first night of Carneval. My head was reeling from the discovery that yes indeed I do like white wine. …

I just bought my first pair of padded pants!     No I’m not incontinent, I have decided to be a cyclist!     Well kind of.     I hate riding my bike anywhere near cars.     It’s just not fun to me when cars are roaring by you at fifty …

In 2016 This was my Bad Day

By Amber Woods on Sunday, January 10, 2016

“So far this morning I have had a man pick his nose while having a conversation with me. I watched some one blow a snot rocket into a trash can after the first race, A man sat down on the bench next to me and belched loudly five times and farted once. ( I was …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
