Armpits and Dosas; Morning in Bangalore

By Amber Wood on Friday, December 16, 2016

I survived my first armpit filled plane ride in India and my first voyeur Indian showering experience. Now I’m sitting on the balcony of our apartment in Bangalore drinking earthy India chicory coffee and singing vintage Garth Brooks in the morning sunshine. It took us thirty hours of flying literally half way around the world …

High Above Mother Russia

By Amber Wood on Thursday, December 15, 2016

A fifteen hour flight halfway around the world would incite boredom in most people. I managed to keep entertained most of the trip between blogging and watching a few on flight movies. More than halfway through our flight on my trip to the toilets I took a peak out the window at the snowy hills …

Hong Kong 4PM

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, December 14, 2016

My first impression of Hong Kong was smog. I’ve never been in a place so brown and smoggy ever before in my life. It made me wonder how people live here. The sky is just an ugly brown mess. I have a friend who has been in Hong Kong working the past few days and her …

Namaste and Welcome to India

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, December 13, 2016

The first time I heard my boyfriend speaking his native language, Tamil it was very surreal. But then everything in India is very surreal. This morning I was awoken early at seven o clock after thirty hours of round the world travel in the past few days. The toots and honks of Bangalore traffic start right …

My Top Ten Healthy Stocking Stuffers

By Amber Wood on Monday, December 12, 2016

The holidays means carbs, delicious carbs and not as much healthy eating as we are usually used to. I don’t necessarily have an issue with a few carbs every once in a while but it’s hard to not go overboard during the Christmas season. This holiday season we will find ourselves overseas spending most of …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
