Crazy Cat Lady

Small Town Crazy Cat Lady

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 27, 2020

Calling a small-town ski resort community my home has some distinct advantages. Most of the time I adore being hours away from the smoggy metropolis of Los Angeles. I can only take the concrete jungle of southern California in very small doses. Life in Big Bear Lake in the pine forest can make me feel …

A Hungry Mountaineer’s Anglo Indian Thanksgiving

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 22, 2020

If there is one thing my boyfriend and I both love it’s throwing a good party. Obviously, we love to host Thanksgiving. Pre COVID-19 we were known to have friends over for a home-cooked authentic Indian dinner every few weeks. Now in this time when hanging out with friends and family is basically frowned upon …

Sports Ball Saves America

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 17, 2020

Here we are in the backend of the year 2020. There is no end to this pandemic in sight and the holidays right around the corner. Do you even want to sit around sharing turkey with family members who may or may not tell you to rot in hell because you are pro-choice? What if …

Moroccan Lamb Stew with Cinnamon and Golden Raisins

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 12, 2020

Late October in California will usually find us exploring the eastern Sierras in our motorhome. Autumns falling aspen leaves really don’t have a lot to do with cooking Morrocan food but a spicy Moroccan stew is a perfect supper for a chilly night camping with your closest friends. I am now newly obsessed with cooking …

Fall Fashion at Lundy Lake…ish

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 5, 2020

As an enthusiast of everything outdoors and also a lover of everything from boots to warm sweaters, the month of October has to be one of my favorite times of the year and not just because I can take out all my boxes of recycled fall fashion finds. As the days get shorter mid-October and …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
