A Keto AF Chicken Mole

By Amber Woods on Saturday, February 26, 2022

Chicken mole is just about my new favorite savory-sweet dish to order from an authentic Mexican restaurant. Being a lifelong Californian whose wanderlust has led her to Mexico more times than I can count, I know credible Mexican food when I see it. I’m not the kind of Californian who considers Taco Bell a tasty …

Gluten-Free Jalapeno Cheese Bread

Happy sports ball Sunday from the Hungry Mountaineer! Do I care who will win the big sports ball game? Not really. But I do care about inhaling some delicious Super Bowl foods after a very long winter of working hard and trekking many miles every day of the week. I normally work eight hours a …

How to Look Svelte in Photos After Covid 19LBS

By Amber Woods on Friday, February 18, 2022

Let’s face it; The past two years of Covid-19 bullshit has not helped anyone’s waistline. How the hell can I even hope to still fit in my favorite sustainable fashion thrift store finds as 2022 chugs along? In my case, it was made even worse by the Covid rash from hell that required me to …

Resort Town Life 2022; Surviving STR’s and STRAH’s (That’s Short Term Rental Ass Holes)

By Amber Woods on Monday, February 14, 2022

The first time someone yelled at me to put my dog on a leash in my own neighborhood I just thought, this cannot be real. We live in a very quiet neighborhood where every neighbor knows one another. Even if we don’t all agree politically we are all friendly. I know every neighbor who walks …

Muslim style Lamb Biryani with Golden Raisins and Cashew Nuts

By Amber Woods on Thursday, February 10, 2022

Nothing says Happy Valentines Day like a big ass bowl of Muslim Lamb Biryani. If you can’t smell cumin and coriander and basically all the gamey smells of Hydrabad India seeping out of your pores it must not be February 14th. This mixed rice dish brought from Afghanistan by the moguls four hundred years ago …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
