Girls just want to have Fun…And Snowshoe

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 12, 2022

As a travel blogger, I’m always up for a new adventure, especially if it is spring break in Mono County. Whether I’m attending my first hockey game from the swanky skyboxes at T Mobile Stadium in Las Vegas or driving five hundred miles in twelve hours to go from one awesome vacation to the next. …

Spring Break Adventures near Rock Creek Lake

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 6, 2022

Of all the trails I ever trekked in the eastern Sierras, the trails above high elevation Rock Creek Lake leading to Mosquito Flats were one of the first aspen-lined paths that made me fall in love with these rugged mountains. Even if this was the first place I ever experienced altitude sickness and spent a …

Bell Pepper Spinach Keto Lasagna with Grassfed Beef

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, March 29, 2022

I hate when life gets in the way of snowshoeing. What I really want to do is spend my days out trekking trails deep in the woods with man’s best friend and a delicious keto lunch packed in my backpack. While keto lasagna is not convenient to pack for a hiking trail lunch, it is …

Typhoon Desert Hot Springs

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, March 23, 2022

None of our friends warned us that Desert Hot Springs was quite possibly the windiest place in southern California. Or that it was the crime capital of the Coachella Valley with absurd domestic violence and burglary rates. As we planned out our springtime RV getaway to this oasis just west of Palm Desert we were …

Sweet Potato Bhaji Burgers with Mango Chutney

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, March 16, 2022

When you get stranded at an international airport for ten unbelievable hours what else is there to do but shove all the savory Indian delights at your face hole? Maybe I shouldn’t have stuffed my face with delectable bhajis, puris and parathas on that January morning but when you miss your early morning flight to …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
