Summertime Mammoth Lakes Shuttle Shenanigans

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Today I learned that no one will sit next to you on the Mammoth Lakes shuttle if you forget to throw your wag bag away after six hours of being in the hot, hot summertime sun. This wasn’t the first time I have partook in the Mammoth Lake Shuttle system but it was the first …

Garam Masala Burger with Goat Cheese & Indian Hot Garlic Ketchup

By Amber Wood on Friday, September 2, 2022

When it comes to travels to India nothing can ever be easy. So why should creating an authentic Indian meal here at home in the United States be effortless? Any thirty-minute recipe food blogger can throw together an “Indian Burger” with store-bought curry powder Rachael Ray circa the year 2000 style. I guess that is …

What does a Resession Mean to me?

By Amber Wood on Sunday, August 28, 2022

Here it is at the beginning of August and the kids are back in school already. How the times have changed. Back in my day I literally would trudge to school (Okay the local bus stop) uphill both ways in several feet of snow some days. In those days school did not start again until …

Sri Lankan Aubergine Curry with Coconut Rice

By Amber Wood on Saturday, August 20, 2022

This curry is spicy. It’s decadent. And it’s an easy late summer Sri Lankan curry to use all those giant purple summertime eggplants you grew in your garden. Creating a flavor dense curry is sually a four-hour ordeal. It’s not something we do in the summer months a lot as four hours over the stove …

Our Kitty-Cat Compound; Building The Mar-A-Lago of Catio’s

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, August 17, 2022

I’m really not ashamed to admit I’m a crazy cat lady. What’s more shocking is I have actually become a dog person as I’ve become older. When I was young I was never a fan of dogs. I always thought they were smelly idiots. (And my dog is both of those things) I’ll always love …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
