Goat Cheese, Honey and Linguicia Sausage Keto Wontons

By Amber Wood on Monday, January 16, 2023

Remember the first two years of the pandemic when anytime anything happened to your body you thought to yourself oh it’s that damned Covid vaccine hocus pocus side effects? Then all the experts said oh there are no side effects from the vaccine. Then millions of women started bleeding for months like they were having …

Kerala Style Meatball Curry with Purple Sweet Potatoes

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, January 10, 2023

Last Friday night we entertained the whole neighborhood by hosting Friday Night Indian Dinner Class, Part One; I’ve Got Big Indian Meatballs. The neighbors came from far and wide (Okay actually from just as far as across Paradise Way) to learn how to prepare Anglo-Indian Style Okra and a southern Indian Meatball Curry. When you …

Las Vegas Fitness Foodie Favorites

By Amber Wood on Thursday, January 5, 2023

It’s September sixth here in Southern California and I might have just made a terrible decision to head to Las Vegas at the tail end of a heatwave. It was one hundred and thirteen miserable degrees as we approached sin city and the low-carb margaritas and culinary delights were calling my name. As well as …

Las Vegas for the Foodie on a Budget

By Amber Wood on Saturday, December 31, 2022

If you google cheap restaurants in Vegas you will see ten-dollar buffets off the strip that might make you sicker than the Coronavirus. You might see an ad for Denny’s or In and Out pop up on your phone but come on, you drove for four hours through the hotter-than-hell desert. Do you really want …

Cranberry Orange Shortbreads

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, December 27, 2022

The shorter chillier days of December bring out two obsessions for me; A return to snowshoeing winter trails followed by baking unique Christmas treats. Luckily the two go hand in hand (or hand in mouth) If it’s the first few days in December you can find me snowshoeing mountain miles with my trail pups in …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
