…And then I ate ALOT of Crab legs!

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 9, 2011

The best thing about vacationing in Pismo Beach is when you can get there without hitting a deer, or two, or three. Also the beach is awesome and I may have eaten my weight in crab legs; its seems plausible.     I live in the mountains, up a long winding highway that deer love to …

Recovering, and a recipe for Crab Omelets

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 5, 2011

Last time I wrote a blog it was a month ago, and I squeaked it out between running to and fro from my downstairs bathroom. The good news is after  two weeks of being violently ill, I am finally healthy again! The bad news in all of this is there is no way I …

The Adventures of Creek Girl

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 3, 2011

Creek days with my best creek friend      The creek in summer is my sanctuary. There are a million places to hike down to Deep Creek between Big Bear and Hesperia in the high desert. I’ve hiked a good amount of them. When I was a kid we would hike through the Boy Scout Preserve …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
